Mark W. Doubleday, Worshipful Master 2010
The brethren of San Diego Lodge No. 35, with the support of their families and friends, conduct business and do the work of our Fraternity. We engage in fellowship, learning, teaching, and the emulation, practice, and continuation of Masonic principles...
San Diego Lodge No. 35’s Vision Statement and Strategic Plan was a concerted effort brought to fruition by the leadership of several Past Masters and brother officers. It was an effort of several meetings over several months and has yielded much fruit. San Diego Lodge No. 35 recently was honored for having raised the most Master Masons during fiscal 2008-2009, under the leadership of Pat Wohlrabe, PM and Randy Brill, PM. Mark W. Doubleday, the current master, bears testament to this effort. The combined efforts of many dedicated brothers and officers had a tremendous impact on our Lodge in the last year. It is our duty to continue in mentoring and nurturing all our brothers, old and new.
VISION: To continue in making San Diego Lodge No. 35 the “Teaching Lodge”. To further our commitment to make San Diego Lodge No. 35 a friendly and welcoming Lodge, to never turn our backs on our brothers, their ladies and their families and to further our commitment to our obligations by providing support to those in need.
GOAL: To follow in the steps of those leaders who have gone before us and make San Diego Lodge No. 35 a Lodge that practices out of the Lodge those ideals which are taught in it. To continue in teaching and educating our fellows and to refocus our efforts on supporting our Honored Ladies and our brothers and their families during this challenging time.

Friday, March 19th was our Past Masters' Night. The members of San Diego Lodge No. 35 were honored by the presence of its distinguished guests as well as by that of several first time visitors, gathering for a delicious dinner before proceeding to the lodge room. The highlight of the evening was, of course, the raising of a brother to the degree of Master Mason, with all officer stations occupied by our Venerable Past Masters.
This Month in Freemasonry
August 2010 – The month of August is derived from the monarchic title of Augustus née Octavian, the first Roman Emperor following Caesar's assassination. August symbolically marks the late summer, and is one of the very important months in the Freemasons' calendar. Filled with contradictions, not only does August mark the raising of Brother George Washington to the sublime degree of Master Mason (August 4th. 1753), but also marks the ancient destruction of the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem nearly 2,500 years ago in August of 586 BC. August of that year earmarks the culmination of the siege by the Babylonian army of Nebuchadnezzar II, and the last time the original Temple of Solomon would stand unaltered by subsequent operative masons. Somewhat darkly, August 15th, 1831 is also the date of the Papal Encyclical Mirari Vos, by Gregory XVI, which condemned virtually all Enlightenment societies (including the Freemasons), referring to them among other descriptions as ‘bilge water in a ship's hold.’ Counterintuitively, just fourteen days later, August 29th 2010 marks one of the traditional feast days of St. John the Baptist, one of masonry’s most important figures.

All Masons in good standing with their respective Lodges are requested to assemble at the Exchange Hotel, in the City of San Diego, on Friday evening, the 20th inst., to make arrangements for the celebrating of the anniversary of our patron saint, John the Baptist.

Who are the masons and what do they do? Masons (also known as Freemasons) belong to the oldest and largest fraternal organization in the world. Today, there are more than two million Masons in North America. Masons represent virtually every occupation and profession, yet within the Fraternity all meet as equals. Masons come from diverse political ideologies, yet meet as friends. Masons come from varied religious beliefs and creeds, yet all believe in one God.
